I was born and raised in a tiny village called Sint Jansklooster, the Netherlands. I passed secondary school at Dingstede, Meppel and after receiving my diploma, I started to get interested in architecture and building technology.
For that, I followed my bachelor courses at University of Applied Sciences Windesheim, Zwolle. I did several internships in the Netherlands (VDS Architecten Meppel) and New York City, United States of America (Rietveld Architects LLP New York. My graduation project (in collaboration with Gerben Knol) consisted of a competition entry for a new design of a museum for the sculptor Constantin Brancusi in Paris, France. In the end this graduation project was graded with a nine, and even once our graduation thesis was awarded with 'best graduation thesis of University of Applied Sciences, Windesheim'. Also it was honored by the organization committee of the competition.
Just after I received the bachelor diploma I decided to continue studying at the Technical University Delft, the Netherlands. I passed the semester admission and Msc1 and Msc2 Courses and i'm now starting with my graduation studio Public Buidling: Territory in Transit.
In the year 2008 I founded S. Apperlo Bouwtechniek, a small independent firm where I can work on small scale projects (building permits, 3d visualization) to gain experience and contacts in the work field. Also in my spare time I try to work as a freelance designer/draftsman at different architecture firms, such as VDS architecten Meppel, in two summers(2008/2009) I worked for Rietveld Architects LLP New York and the upcoming office of Powerhouse Company, Rotterdam.
